Town won 3-2 in the League Cup Quarter Final against Guildford City Football Club at the New Defence.
Horley clarets eat the Guildford Whale!
Come on you Town well done Lads
Town started well and went on the attack from the start playing some good contolled football. After six minutes Michael Smith broke through the centre and shot and the Guildford keeper saved.Play switched to the other end and Stewart Devlin got down well in a goal mouth scramble for Town.With twelve played Jamie Risebrow was brought down as he broke free and the Guildford skipper became Guildford's first booking of the night.Luke Ragetti took the free kick which the keeper could not hold and Clive Piller was on hand to score his first goal of the season for Town.A minute later and town broke free again and Adma Pullen tried to lop the keeper but this time he held onto the ball.In the 23rd minute Guildford had a shot cleared on the line by skipper Danny Guscott.Town came back with another attack and Anthony Jupp was unlucky with a lob which beat the keeper but just landed on top of the net.With fifteen left Guildford picked up their second booking of the game, from the free kick the City keeper saved at the second attempt.A minute later and Luke Ragetti put Clive Piller through but his long range shot went just wide of the upright.Two minutes in injury time and Anthony Jupp was called on to do a goal line clearance.Town went in winning one nil at half time. In the opening minute of the second half Jamie Risebrow went in for a one on one with teh City keeper who just managed to head the ball clear on the edge of the box.With five played Adam set up Clive Piller whose shot went just over the cross bar.Play switched to the other end and Stewart Devlin pulled of a great save tipping the ball over the crossbar.With twelve played Luke Ragetti was awarded a free kick which he took and he fired the ball into the back of the net to put Town up two nil (See the goal on the horley U tube site).With twenty one left another Luke Ragetti free kick saw the City keeper drop the ball again and John Eldred fired the ball home from close range to put Town three nil up (See the goal on the Horley u tube site)With twenty left Michael Smith picked up town first booking of the night.With seventeen left a goal mouth scramble saw Guildford score.A minute later they were awarded a penalty and Anthony Jupp was booked. The penalty kick saw young Stewart Devlin do a superb by save on the line and keeping Town in the game from the penalty spot.Next Guildford picked up booking number three for a foul on Anthony Jupp.With fourteen left Michael Smith was replaced by Jake Mills.With eleven left the Guildford coach was given a straight red in the Guildford dug out.With nine left Adam Pullen did well down the wing and crossed to Luke Ragetti who's header went just wide of the upright.With eight minutes left Stewart Devlin again pulled of a good save for Town.Guildford then picked up booking number four for kick Adam Pullen.A minute later and it was booking number five for Guildford.With only a minute left Guildford picked up another booking making six.Followed by number seven booking.With two minutes of injury time played and Guildford scored number two.Five minutes into injury time and Jame Risebrow was replaced by Darren Tidy. This puts Town into the Semi Fianl of the Cup after a good display and well done to the team and management for not getting involved with Guildford tactics.
