Description

Hanworth Villa Football Club is a football club based in Hanworth, in the London Borough of Hounslow, and established in 1976. The club won the Middlesex County League Premier Division title in 2004–05, earning promotion to the Combined Counties Football League Division One. In 2010–11, the club were finalists in the Middlesex Senior Charity Cup, losing 2–0 to Wealdstone at Hayes and Yeading’s Church Road stadium. They've reached the Fourth Qualifying Round of the FA Cup in the 2011–12 season.

Our senior side  were promoted to the CCFL Div One ready for the start of the 2005/06 season after winning the Middlesex County Premier the previous season with a record number of points.

It took us a couple of seasons to find our feet in Division One, finishing in 7th & 6th places in the league, although we did manage to win the Div One Challenge Cup in our second year. We successfully defended the cup the following year and also managed to finish in 2nd spot in the league, unfortunately our ground was not up to the required standard and we were unable to gain promotion to the Premier.

During the close season the committee got busy finding the funds for the necessary works and, when we once again finished in the runners up position in the 08/09 season, promotion was granted.

The debut season in the Premier proved to be a difficult one for the side. The step up took quite a bit of adjusting to, but hard work by the management team of Tony Buss & Lee Stevenson meant that the side made sufficient improvement throughout the season to finish 6 positions off the bottom and ensured a second season in the top division.

During the close season Tony Buss decided that he’d been manager long enough and stepped down. Tony was replaced by former British Airways manager Bobby Dawson with Lee Stevenson remaining in the dual roles of head coach and assistant manager.

The season started with the players still trying to come to terms with Bobby’s management method, and although it seemed as if we were performing better than the previous season the points tally at Christmas told a different tale. 21 points as against 19 in our 1st campaign.

I don’t think that anybody knows what happened over the Christmas break but something certainly did. All of a sudden we remained faithful to our short passing game when games started to go against us, and just as suddenly we started to pick up points. Loads of them! In the 21 games after Christmas we managed to take 51 points, a tally that saw us finish as the form team of 2011.

After finishing the season in that style we are obviously looking forward to the 2011/12 season. It will be very tough to repeat last season, but I know that Bobby, Leo and the boys are determined to give it a go.
