Competition: Epsom and Ewell Youth Football League Challenge Cup Final - Under 12 (Saturday)
Venue: Banstead Athletic, Merland Rise, Tadworth
Horley Town Under 12s today picked their Epsom and Ewell Youth Football League Challenge Cup at Merland Rise, without kicking a ball! Their opponents, Epsom & Ewell Colts, failed to appear and Horley were, somewhat unsatisfactorily, handed the trophy by a walkover.
On their way to the final Horley had beaten Chilworth Rangers 14-1, Horsley A G/A, and Perrywood A 7-0.
They were also runners-up in the league to Epsom & Ewell on goal difference. The team managers, Darren Banner and Paul Stockwell, had some words of praise for their team.
"This is the team's 5th season together; a very successful team and another great season. We would like to say a big THANKS to the boys for all their hard work and dedication, and also to the parents for all their support and encouragement.
- George Branton - an excellent and agile goalkeeper. Great shot stopper and really commands his area
- Cathal Hogan - a real tower at the heartof our defence. Commanding in the air and a ferocious tackler
- Jordan Robbins - ever reliable defender, with a fantastic left foot and always consistent
- James Evans - works trelessly for the team. Elegant and pacey with 2 good fet and good passing ability
- James Kinear - a dynamic full back. Never gives in, tackles hard and gets forward well
- Sam Slaney - never gives in. Always positive and will break forward at every opportunity
- Harrison Banner - midfield battler and will never give in. Closes down, tackles well and has a great work ethic
- Ryan Hall - can play well down the middle, or wide, or at the back, all at a very high level. Skillful and quick
