Town's Under 9 age group played in the Invitation Cup Semi Final 1st Leg on Sunday against Furngate at Broadfield's 3G arena.
Given Town's indifferent league form, this game really could have gone either way.
Furngate started well and could easily have gone 1-0 up but for a smart save from Holmes in the Town goal. We have seen so many good saves this season from the young keeper but this could possibly have proved the most important.
Any remaining nerves, were settled fairly quickly into the game when Remfry tricked his way past two Furngate players down the right and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the far corner.
Three minutes later, good work down the right by Town's captain Ryan Strudwick saw his cross swept home by Parsons.
Some excellent movement from Furngate's centre forward saw him slip through completely unmarked on a couple of occasions but the defensive duo of Storr and Sydenham quickly saw the danger and made amends.
Half-time came and saw the introduction of Walker and Langmead from the bench. Both made an almost immediate impact with Langmead slotting home between keeper and defender for 3-0.
Walker then scored a cracker - bravely going 50-50 with Furngate's keeper to put the ball in off the inside of the post with what could have only been his second touch - regrettably it was also his last - he ended up in A&E on crutches !! A Club spokesman said "we need to wait for the swelling to subside before the extent of the injury is known - but everyone at the Club are hoping for a speedy recovery".
Walmsley was tireless in midfield, winning the ball and feeding nicely into the front players. On one such occasion the pass went out to Strudwick whose low cross was unfortunately diverted into his own net by a Furngate defender.
The dubious goals panel are sitting within the next few weeks after Strudwick claimed the goal.
In summary a good afternoons work - clean sheet, 5 goals and 5 different scorers, 1st full game for a number of weeks by capt Strudwick - only marred by the injury to Walker.
The 2nd Leg is scheduled for 14 March, 3:15, Pitch 1.
Town: B Holmes, A Storr, J Sydenham, C Walmsley, B Langmead, Strudwick (mom), S Remfry, Parsons, Walker.
