Horley lose 2 goal lead

Horley Town 2 - 3 Raynes Park Vale

Eldred hammers home the second goal

Giving away a 2 goal lead is always a bad idea, but thats what Horley managed to do on Tuesday night. Left back Matt Ward scored early in the first half after a neat interchange down the left, and his jinking run through the box was neatly finished with a strong left footed shot low into the corner.

Horley went in at halftime looking like they had bossed the first half, despite a couple of chances from Raynes Park. But the opposition obviously had the hairdryer treatment at halftime as they came out in the second half with a completely different attitude. They put Town under a lot pressure and it took a bit of brave blocking from Weller, Guscott, Jupp and Ward to keep the visitors out. After one such attack, Horley broke out down the right and a long ball across the box found Eldred unmarked and he hammered his shot into the roof of the net.

At 2 up, Horley looked strong and worth their lead, but Raynes Park weren't down and out. They headed straight upfield and scored a decent header straight away. Two more followed in quick succession and Horley looked dejected. But they never gave up and continued attacking right to the end. Manager Ali Rennie was disappointed but was looking forward to the return of Adam Pullen and Dave Brown for the FA Cup opener with Holmesdale FC on Saturday.
