Horley Town 13-0 Uckfield Town Youth Mid-Sussex YML Under 18 - Sunday 18th September 2011Both teams started evenly, but before too long Horley were showing their superiority. Both Denis Costigan and Aidan Hogan upfront had shots blazed wide and over. Lets of neat passing down the left between Stu Burbidge and Els Roberts gave Horley a number of corners all of which troubled Uckfield but Horley struggled to convert. On 16 minutes a lovely through ball from Alex Taylor in midfield cut the Uckfield defence apart putting Els Roberts clear and he broke the deadlock with a deft knock with his left into the bottom right corner. Roberts followed up 3 minutes later by finishing with his right following a scramble in box to make it two nil.
It was all Horley now and some neat footwork from Costigan put Andy Stevens through but he blazed wide. Play now seemed to be focussed down the right. and Costigan linked up with Jack Porter who shot very neatly from the edge of the box to make it 3-0. Costigan was again involved on 25 with Roberts who laid off to Rob Fludder in space to shoot home with his right foot from 25 yards for 4-0. It was all Horley now and Hogan managed to get a yard of space but knocked it wide with his left. Uckfield then managed a good attack and forced Sam Belcher in goal to rush out and save a good through ball from the left, and some quick thinking allowed him to quickly release Porter down the right and get Horley attacking again. Hogan had at this stage swapped with Taylor in midfield, and it was his neat ball that sent Taylor clear down the right to score with no defence in sight. Taylor scored again after 37 mintues from 6 yards with his left to make it 6-0. Horley then conceded their first corner on 40 from a clearance by Dan Penhaligon, but it drifted across the box and wide. Uckfield then conceded a penalty on 42 minutes for a push on Costigan. Sam Belcher, standing in for unavailable Harry Granger in goal, stepped up to slot the penalty home and teh teams went into the break at 7-0. At halftime Jamie Phur replaced Stevens on the right and George Maybury came on for Costigan who had worked his socks off, and it was Maybury who opened Horley's account on 60 minutes after a nice interplay between Phur and Porter down the right put Porter into space to put over a great cross which Maybury slid in to meet for 8-0 Horley were always on top and when Taylor was taken down by the Uckfield goalie, Roberts stepped up to complete his hat trick from the spot. Uckfield then went down to 10 following a midfield collision. On 72, Uckfiled conceded a free kick just outside the left corner of the box, and Fludder scored direct with a sweet shot top right. And it was only minutes later that Maybury doubled his tally when he chipped the oncoming goalie from outside box after a neat through ball from Adam Stephenson who had just come on for injured Dan Penhaligon and slotted into centre midfield, allowing Hogan to drop back into the centre of the defence. On 75 Stephenson tried to open his open account with a great shot which just dipped over the bar. On 82 Taylor headed in the rebound from Maybury's left foot shot to make it 12. And Matt Woodard scored a captains goal when he finished off a Jack Porter corner with a shot from the penalty spot just before the final whistle. Final score 13-0.
