Good start to the New Year
Horley Town v Oakwood Red
Sunday 8th January 2012
First game back after the festive break and it was a case of deja vu as the boys registered their second 0-0 draw of the season against Oakwood Red. The match was as tight as the scoreline suggested with there being few clear cut scoring opportunities, little width used and the play predominantly in the middle of the pitch. Harvey Banner put in a man of the match performance as he commanded the centre of midfield and struck the post with a long range free kick.
Goal galore!!
Horley Town v Maidenbower Black
Sunday 15th January 2012
After the goal drought in the previous week, the floodgates opened as the boys completed a convincing 9-0 victory against Maidenbower Black. The early part of the game saw increasingly confident passing and interplay as openings were created but the chances couldn't quite be converted. Mid-way through the half Charlie Lansdown opened the scoring quickly followed by a brace from Harvey Banner to leave the score 3-0 at half time.
The second half saw Charlie Lansdown quickly add to his goal tally followed by man of the match Luca Vicelli-Willcox and Taylor Whelan both scoring twice with Charlie Whiteside concluding proceedings with a well taken goal.
Well deserved draw
Horley Town v Three Bridges Amber
Sunday 18th December 2011
Full of festive cheer, Horley Town began the game with a number of well crafted passing moves as they took on their strongest opponents from the opening round of fixtures earlier in the season. As expected, Three Bridges provided a stern examination of the improvement Horley have made in recent weeks. Few chances arose early in the game as the sides matched each other, and the Horley defensive pair of Harry Westlake and Joseph Marshall were relatively untroubled. As half time approached, a strong run from the Three Bridges number 8 saw a low shot directed in the bottom left corner of the Horley net.
Unperturbed, Horley came out for the second half full of confidence. As the game progressed, the pressure began to build and a series of deft passes saw Charlie Whiteside feed Charlie Lansdown on to Harvey Banner whose pass to Taylor Whelan on the edge of the box saw an accomplished low drive into the bottom right corner of the net. Alex Field, making his debut in attack, made a number of important contributions during the game which ended 1-1.
Well deserved win
Horley Town v Furngate Youth
Sunday 29th January 2012
Horley Town lost this fixture the last time these two teams met by just a goal and it was a very tight game again this time round. From kick-off, it was end to end action with some good passing between the boys. Just before half time, Toby Giraldo, having just returned to the team after recovering from a broken arm, unleashed a brilliant shot which hit the crossbar and rebounded back to Harvey Banner who then scored.
The second half saw some good chances on goal from the boys but equally Joseph Marshall had to be strong in defence. With Furngate piling on the pressure, Horley did have to defend with all their players. In the last few minutes of the game, they seemed to lose their formation which led to Furngate having some good shots on goal. Charlie Whiteside saved the day with 2 great saves in the last minute of the game.
Tailor made win!
Horley Town v MSB Diamonds
Sunday 27th November 2011
Horley Town started this match under pressure for the first five minutes, but they slowly grew into the game and created a few chances. The boys started passing the ball around well and Taylor Whelan hit the post.
The second half saw much better passing and after a few shots on goal, Taylor Whelan went on to score the first and only goal of the game. Credit to the MSB Diamonds goalkeeper who pulled off some good saves in the last few minutes of the game to keep the score at 1-0 to Horley Town.
Man of the match went to Taylor Whelan
